Elaine

Victoria Elaine Liliendahl de Silva (b. 2003, Denmark) is a young Danish and part Sri Lankan artist that goes under the name "Elaine" as a tribute to her mother.Coming from a familie of opticians and having herself a former background in youth elite handball in Norway. Becoming an artist was not really in the cards for Elaine.However during the turbalent times of the covid pandemic, Elaine found herself as many others isolated from the world. Being dragged down of feelings depression. Elaine would find hope and meaning where she didn’t expect in Ludvig van Beethoven’s music.
While listening to many different genres of music, Elaine stumble upon by change a recording of Beethovens The Piano Concerto No. 5 in E-flat major, Op. 73, “Emperor Concerto”The music and performans by (Friedrich Gulda and Wiener Philharmonikerne) sparked a light of hopefulness during a difficult period. Showing how the music is still impacting the lifes of people hundreds of years later.Her artwork is modern visual interpretation of music, further deepening her admiration for the art form.Elaine’s art takes us on a journey across different stages of music. Working and meeting with the instruments builders, composer and musicians.
Seeking to learn more, to combine visual art and music, and to connect with people.

From Music to Paint

Working with media of aquarelle and tusch on paper, and glas paint. For it's transparency and lightness.Elaine creates her art by capturing the musicians movement in their live performances. Her hand moving like a rhythmic dance shaping the line drawn on the paper, changing along with the shifting emotions of the music. Creating dramatic and elegant to other times more abstract and humorous depictions.Letting the audience look into her interpretations of the music. Leaving a physical piece to remember the feelings from the performance. Creating art of imagination and joy, for the audiance to explore, see and listen to."I would simply discribe my work as a appriciation form one artform to a another. Poems for music

Finding the rythem not only with a pen and brush. but with her words as well. Elaine composes poetry with music as it's central point and metaphor. Currently working on the poetry collection Musikken i Mennesket (The Songs of Humans) and writing shorts poems Kunst om digte (Art about poams)."I simply love writing poetry because it provides way for me to futher deepen my world, without giving a definitive answer.

Musikken i Mennesket (The Songs of Humans) is a poetry collection of 21 poems, inspired by my journey following path of music. With dear encounters, thoughs and lessons all written with tear, beauty and laughter."For who are we humans when we don't have each other?, the quatrain of memories, the joy of laughter, the voice of loneliness, love without its singers. How does the The Song of Humans sound?"Created with a three-act structure in mind with the introduction Menneskets Overture (Mankinds Overture), The first act Musikken i Kroppen (The Music in the Body), Second Act Musikken i Hjertet (The Music in the Heart) and Third and final act Musikken i Sindet (The Music in the Mind).
